Merime is the biggest song from Alex Ugwu’s album ‘Alexian Christmas’ released in December 2022. The music features a perfect blend of the folk style of Igbo music and African music, the highlife style, a reimagination of the mbem music art form of the Igbos and many other styles many of which are intrinsically ‘Alexian’.
The song Merime is the last song in Alexian Christmas Album and in true Alex fashion, has every song in the album knitted perfectly and seamlessly together, with echoes of each song bleeding into the music at different points and in different create forms. This is made obvious and foreshadowed in the interlude. The interlude is both like a summary of the songs of the album and an invitation to listen for Echoes of them.
Merime is quite a futuristic song and will blossom when its time comes, but for now, lets all enjoy it the best we can.
