“Québec: A discourse on Nations” is a three-part documentary series exploring the concept of nationhood through the example of the Canadian province of Québec. In these videos we aim to board the many phases and evolutions of French Canadian identity, while also exploring the history of Canada with a focus on this region of the country.
In this first half of the third episode, we board the end of Duplessism and discuss some concepts of political science to make sense of what happened. The goal is to portray how Québec went from one of the poorest and most underdevelopped regions of North America to a vibrant economic powerhouse that started to question its place in Canada. We’ll explore Québécois society from 1940 to 1970, covering the Quiet Revolution, its social transformations, the decline of the Church and the intellectual formulations of the various approaches for breaking Confederation.
