‘You Raise Me Up’ may be regarded as a song beseeching individual or collective help from humanity or the Divine to overcome adversity and self-exceed. For those who believe in the Divine Grace, the song may seem to be an adoration of and in gratitude towards the Divine.

‘You Raise Me Up’ is a song composed by Rolf Lovland and written by Brendan Graham. In 2002, it was released on the Secret Garden album ‘Once in a Red Moon’ in collaboration with Brian Kennedy. Although the original version was not a major hit, the song has since been recorded by more than a hundred other artists, most notably American singer Josh Groban in 2003 and Irish group Westlife in 2005.

This video is a rendering of ‘You Raise Me Up’ by Emma Kok, a sixteen-year-old singer, together with the Royal Military Band at the Battle of the Grebbeberg concert in Netherlands in May 2024. Her voice is of a soaring spirit and rising soul from the depths and moves the listeners profoundly.

The Battle of the Grebbeberg between the Dutch Army against invading Nazi Germany forces in the Netherlands happened during World War II. 420 Dutch and about 250 German soldiers were killed and Germany advanced and occupied the entire Netherlands. After the defeat of Germany and end of the WW II, Grebbeberg was turned into a national war cemetery of Netherlands.

Sri Aurobindo wrote that Hitler was an instrument of an Asuric force and his military campaign aimed to dominate the world and would have taken India also. The defeat of the Axis nations led by Germany in the war was due to the intervention of the Divine Force to save the world from going back to barbaric times, according to Sri Aurobindo.
